Class of: 2029

Major: Illustration BFA

Medium: Ink and Illustrator rendering on paper

Faculty: Diana Shpungin

Prompt: Using mark making techniques, we were assigned to invent a past and present landscape consisting of two parts: half using ink and half rendered in Illustrator.

Using this piece I explored a dystopian world, where all of our man-made structures were left, abandoned and allowed to be fully consumed by the unstoppable force of nature that surrounds us. The artwork created puts forth the idea of how nature would take over if humanity disappeared. I took a brutalist architectural form as my past landscape, and applied this narrative to it to create the present. The marks feature leaves for the digitally rendered portion and grid-like lines for the hand drawn half. I choose this to further evoke ideas of humanity and how our human touch impacts the world around us.
