City Dreams

Class of: 2029

Major: Integrated Design BFA

Medium: Photoshop

Faculty: Susan Stillman

Prompt: For this assignment, we had to use Photoshop to disguise wooden building blocks incorporating them into an interesting composition/scene.

When this project was proposed to us, I immediately thought of one of my favorite movies, “Labyrinth.” The building block reminded me of a confusing maze and castle. For that composition, I was determined to make it work. It was more difficult than I thought it was going to be to make the scene look reminiscent of the movie. Some elements came easily, but some were a real struggle to incorporate, such as the stairs and the baby. It was difficult to add all the elements I had imagined because of the lack of space between the blocks and their angles. I am still pleased with the outcome, but I had higher expectations. The second city dreams, I had no idea what I was going to do. I ended up experimenting more with color and texture. I primarily focused on the FX options in Photoshop. I think that this piece came out really nice and is much simpler than the Labrinth one.
