Prompt: This project is about making a curtain using deconstruction and reconstruction. We measured a real window in our classroom, used reused materials, and documented the process. The total cost should be under $10.
This curtain was made from my old clothes and leftover materials from last semester, including denim pants, linen pants, and a cotton skirt. I used buttons and colorful threads to connect the pieces and build a new form. This project fits the assignment because I used deconstruction and reconstruction to transform existing materials into a functional curtain.
The concept comes from my personal feeling of the ocean. I am not trying to show a clear image, but to express a quiet and calm experience. For me, the sea is not always bright blue. Sometimes it feels grey, soft, and layered, especially when I sit alone and watch the water for a long time.
The material choices are important to the meaning. Different fabrics create different textures and levels of transparency, which help show the feeling of layers and movement. I also pulled threads from the denim edges to create a rough but soft texture. During the process, I changed the direction of the wave shapes from my first sketch, which made the final result feel more natural.
