Flower Wire Corset

Class of: 2029

Major: Fashion Design BFA

Medium: Metal wire

Faculty: Lara Knutson

Prompt: The project involved creating a three-dimensional form entirely out of wire while exploring structure, negative space, shadow, and spatial relationships.

This piece was inspired by a corset I already own that features a delicate rose pattern. Rather than recreating the garment literally, I wanted to create a more representational interpretation that focused on the boning, silhouette, and structural elements rather than the fabric itself. I hand-bent sections of wire into floral and ruffled forms to suggest the appearance of lace and ornamentation without directly reproducing them. From a distance, the piece creates the illusion of softness and detail, while up close the wire structure and construction become more visible; focusing on the contrast between wire and structure and make it into a delicate form.
