Theme: Mix-ups & Mishaps
The First Year Program wants to see your stories, poems, images, and imaginings to be featured in our third annual First Year Journal.
This year’s theme is Mix-ups & Mishaps – a celebration of the unplanned, the misunderstood, and the accidentally profound. All genres are welcome. Accepted students will receive two copies of the print versions at the launch party in Spring.

- No AI use is accepted. All works must be unique to the author/artist
- Word count maximum: 750 words – please edit longer works
OPEN CALL LAUNCH & BOOK PRESENTATION:We will be launching the FY Journal #3 Call for Submissions during the Book Presentation of MACONDO-YORK, a proposal that merges New York urban photography within a typographic universe, featuring over 200 images that interact with the experiences of Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Gabriel García Márquez in the Big Apple. The process of creating Macondo-York is well connected with the ethos of the FY Journal, and it would be a great opportunity to hear from the author Ivan Onatra about his creative process, and also hear about previous editions of the Journal, to inspire your submissions.
