Prompt: It’s all in your head, create a sculpture with pneuma, and create dialogue.

Bust combining motifs of Buddhism and Christianity. When given this prompt, I knew immediately that I wanted to pay homage to both of my grandmas. One is heavily Buddhist, while the other is very Christian. There’s a certain dynamic that is hard to explain, but it creates an interesting view on religion in our family. Personally, I am atheist, but through this project I wanted to play with this contrasting idea of religion. To start, I drew out many ideas of what a bust could look like. There was originally ostrich feathers, gold leaf, and other “bells and whistles” that I decided to eliminate after a conversation with professor, Carol Peligian. I spent a week creating prosthetic makeup to later be casted on a head. I chose a female friend of mine that has very androgynous facial features to be my model, as it pushes how I see gender conflicting the two religions.
