Prompt: Using the writing tools of metaphors, image creation that conveys emotional energy, questions, sensory language, and form to create a Self Portrait Poem
I was assigned to create a self portrait poem in which I decided to not only describe how I visually see myself, but how I also see myself in relation to my surroundings. I begin with describing my fish shaped eyes and long hair. My curious mind and dry hands. Through these images I connect to the memory of my mother and how I was born from one of the loviest beings I’ve ever seen. There I transform that memory into myself. I go from looking at beautiful paintings, to being a child of one, to then becoming one myself. Since my class is focused on memory, I tried focusing on my emotions, senses, and memories to convey my self portrait.
