Prompt: Make an object or artifact reflecting connection to a community or expressing an aspect of identity, beliefs, or personality. As explained in the assignment description, "The object can be a sculpture, a functional tool, or a body extension (such as an accessory, garment, or prosthesis). The aim is for the object to visually express feelings of belonging or connection to a particular community, whether chosen or inherent." I chose to make a Sicilian Wagon toy that rolls.

This related to the project assignment because the goal was to reflect on a community or place I feel a connection and belonging to. Sicily is where my mom is from and where her family grew up, so I wanted to showcase the pride of the region through a recreation of the traditional wagons that used to be used for transportation. After visiting Sicily myself, I was able to experience the hospitality of those that live there and the beauty in which my family was able to grow up in. The cart features colors, patterns, and symbols seen in Sicily’s parades, decor, and more, which I feel directly express what it is like to visit there. I used plywood which I engraved on with the laser lab so that I could have the sculpture be more durable and easy to paint, as I want to display it!
