Greenwich Village Townhouse

Class of: 2022

Major: Strategic Design and Management BBA

Medium: sculpture / clay

Faculty: Alaiyo Bradshaw

Prompt: The prompt for this project was to create a 3D building out of clay, inspired by the architecture in Greenwich Village.

As I walked through the streets of Greenwich Village, I took notice of the townhouses. New York is such a big city, the buildings are often towering over the sidewalks. However, these houses were pretty average sizes and felt the most familiar to me (as someone who is from the suburbs). I decided to create a clay house combined many elements I liked (including brick, many window, and an awning above the door. I had no idea what the back of New York townhouses typically look like, so I got to create my own. The front of the house is fairly standard, however the back as an attached room that is one story, with two French doors.
