Claw Machine

Class of: 2028

Major: Fine Arts BFA

Medium: Oil on canvas

Prompt: Make a painting using photographic references

This work is a 30 by 40 inch oil painting of a claw machine. The dolls in the glass cabinet present different states with different postures and gazes, forming a vivid composition with the surrounding angles. The lifeless toys seem to have their own emotions and expressions in front of the mechanical gripper and glass. This painting captures this unexpected space with a unique perspective, while also reflecting the role of the task theme “photo reference” in composition. The texture beauty of the oil paint in this painting is reflected in the thick brushstrokes on the bear toy and the thin transparent paint on the glass.
