Dream Space

Class of: 2024

Major: Fashion Design BFA

Medium: Sculpture, mixed media

Prompt: The assignment for this project was to construct a polyhedral form using two different planar materials. It was required that we include a surprise inside the form.

For this project, I decided to represent my own personal creative space. I constructed the form first with bristol paper and utilized frosted plastic sheets and a decorative folder material. I wanted to use the iridescent pattern along with bling stickers to highlight a jewel effect of my place for artistic imagination. I thought that this was important because it reflects the preciousness in which I treat my time for creative exploration. I view the time and place spent for artistic expression as a ritualistic journey where I am able to search for my true self. I bound these materials together with frosted plastic tabs and copper wire. I also decided to create windows to allow for both breathing space within the sculpture and a view inside. On the interior, I included some of my previous artworks along with a photo of me working on my art. Although the outside is glamorous, the inside of my creative space is often hectic and cluttered with new ideas.
