Prompt: Objectives: Explore Identity and Community, Demonstrate a clear understanding of 3D design elements and principles, Combining primary and secondary design research, Develop Skills in Material Manipulation, Learning to document your work by using orthographic projection.
This project explores identity and community through the design of a transformable 3D object inspired by traditional Korean folding panels. The folding format allows the object to open, close, and shift, reflecting the idea that identity is not fixed but shaped by environment, relationships, and self-presentation.
The first and last panel follow the same design, serving as a beginning and an end to the inner narrative. The second panel symbolizes family, shown through Chinese zodiac animals: dad as a dragon, mom as a rabbit, myself a dog, and my brother as a rat. The third panel explores my individuality, revealing my interest and conflict in symmetrical and asymmetrical design. The fourth panel showcases community through a chaotic composition of various designs, symbolizing the diversity within the people I care about.
