Where did the constellations disappear to?
Prompt: For a Major Research project called 'The Assembly'. The premise is to use deep research to inform and develop a piece of work.
The project ‘Where did the constellations disappear to?’ explores the uprise in companies planning for satellite constellations and the subsequent effects to the environment caused by bringing these satellites back to earth. Through vivid, three-dimensional illustrations, the overuse and environmental abuse of space – the tragedy of the commons – is explored. Wire is used to mimic the main material used in satellite construction (aluminum) which poses as an important factor to the negative impact of satellite burn-up. Burn-up and the Earth are formed from clay in solid forms, creating a depth to the images and a concrete reality of the relationship between the effects of satellite constellations. This educative project aims to create questions within the viewers about what is happening in our space. As space is often overlooked and disregarded by the general public, there is a lack of critical questions and concerns on what is affecting our shared atmosphere and global environment.
