Prompt: Students create a self-portrait using the pen tool in Illustrator in which they depict themselves while revealing something that cannot be strictly gathered by their appearance. No color allowed, only black, white and grays.
In this piece, I attempted to capture a personality trait of mine that tends to go unnoticed among my peers. In attempt to show my mental and physical struggle with being a perfectionist, I created gears and mechanical equipment to almost act as a silhouette for the rest of my body. The need for everything I create/work on to turn out “perfect” is beneficial to an extent, and often times I cross the line. This leaves me feeling robotic; like I don’t give myself a break and need to be working as my best self at all times in order to feel worthy.
