In Passing
Prompt: This was the final project for my Watercolor elective, meant to be a reflection of one’s self.
This piece is inspired by a writing from my seminar class, The Image of the City by Kevin Lynch. Lynch talks of society’s relationship with, and ideas surrounding, our hometowns. There are many ideas associated with hometowns, but most can agree there are usually feelings of nostalgia. Nostalgia can be sparked by an image or even a building, that is what the Casa Motel does for me. In my hometown of Duluth, MN, the motel stands on a somewhat odd place towards the top of the hill, near a busy winding road I used to drive on nearly every day to school and then eventually work. I wanted to depict the image as if i am staring at it through a car window, including reflection and highlight effects.
