Things behind your ears

Class of: 2028

Major: Fashion Design BFA

Medium: Video and Image

Faculty: Kori Shavit

Prompt: Create a 2 to 3-minute video piece inspired by Chris Marker’s La Jetée. This project invites you to build a visual narrative using still images, sound, and/or narration. You will explore how static images can convey motion, emotion, and story through thoughtful sequencing and sound design.

This work is a conversation with memory and the most primitive part of yourself–your ethnicity. La Jetée follows many themes of memory, so I decided to personify memory, adorn her with layers of jewelry, and equip her with my mother tongue. My work explores the disconnect between your memories and identity, even though they are essentially the most basic parts of your being.
