From April 1st, the Korean government forces every overseas arrival to be self- quarantined at home or in a designated facility. Following that policy, I am now self-quarantined as the overseas arrival under the government’s control. On the day I entered Korea, I had to download an app that offered my location and a state of my health to the public officer in charge. If I rejected to download it, I couldn’t enter my country according to policy. I think this app might help the government to reduce the percentages of the patients who had tested positive from the virus. Also, it could be easier to manage people in preventing the virus because the local government has all information of each individual such as one’s health state and a current location. However, it is stressful for me to know the fact that my behaviors are controlled by someone.
I created a fractal representing my current situation of being self-quarantined. The background of a picture is a house with a window and the window is replaced with a smartphone monitor. The smartphone is the only object which connects me with the outside world, so I put it as the window. Also, the screen monitor seems to be similar to the window glass. For the shape of the fractals, I tried to make the shape of the vines with the elements of a digital map. The role of the vines in the image is to separate myself from the outside world. It could be said that vines symbolize the location tracing app which prevents me from going outside of the house.
