Wire Project: Ferris Wheel

Class of: 2024

Major: Interior Design BFA

Medium: Wire sculpture, video

Faculty: John Jerard

Prompt: This project asked for students to design and build a 3D object out of wire. We had to draw a technical drawing of the piece, and then fabricate it into a tangible object.

I decided to create a ferris wheel because I wanted to have a challenge at engineering a piece that did not only look nice aesthetically but was movable. Since we were asked to create an object out of wire, I  gured a ferris wheel would be perfect for this project. In terms of material choices, I chose to use some colored wire for some of the detailing because ferris wheels are often associated with bright colors and this feeling of excitement. The hope was that the  nal piece would evoke a sense of nostalgia and the memories of being a child at a theme park.
