Prompt: Dialogue with Nature: Our body constantly is having a conversation with nature. We experience the natural world by sharing it, exchanging with it, utilizing it, and enjoying it. We are mesmerized, amazed, and sometimes terrified by it. This project thinks about an aspect of your body’s unique and personal dialogue with Mother Nature.
The work, Pneuma talks about the artist’s dialogue with nature; how there is not enough air. It captures the artist’s perception of constantly feeling a lack of air as if breathing in a paper bag. The exaggeration of a paper bag reflects the artist’s personal experience of breathing through a paper bag during panic attacks and realizing how it was happening constantly daily. The sharply folded and crumbled film work shrinks the space demonstrating the lack of air. The transparency of the material captures the invisibly circulating quality of air. Moving the lights back and forth to enlarge the shadow visualizes the idea more vividly and lively.
