Class of: 2022

Major: Fashion Design BFA

Medium: Garment

Faculty: Stacy Seiler

Prompt: Students visit the Downtown Archive at NYU Fales Library to develop research methods for sourcing and exhausting the potential information offered from authentic materials. In Seminar, students reflect on the information they have sourced from their artist’s life, community and/or design practice in a Learning Portfolio entry. Students also utilize their findings to further inform the materials, process, craft, and theme of a garment they will construct in Studio. The garment is inspired by their artist's life and cultural contributions.

This is a transgressive art inspired garment, based on the personalities of Nick Zedd and Greer Lankton, and incorporated the style of counter cultures during the 1970s. Both of these artists are famous shock troopers and that why I wanted to make my garment offensive. So I transformed the body into a gender-neutral doll with both noticeable sexual organs. Instead of using traditional fabrics, I used plaster bandage to make the outer piece of the garment in order to achieve the texture of roughness.
