The Tibetan Girls

Class of: 2023

Major: Fine Arts BFA

Medium: Digital painting

Faculty: Katerina Lanfranco

Prompt: You will combine analogue and digital tools (digital can be just in the ELP Post if desired or as part of your ideation/sketch process) and techniques to create a portrait of three or more people that communicates the time, place and group that these people represent. Include signs, symbols and other signifiers (like text, setting etc), to show a group of figures in space. Please consider how the background functions to support your figures.

My Ethnographic Exploration project is about Tibetan girls and domestic yaks. I painted this project all digitally in Photoshop because I want to challenge myself about digital painting skills. The main idea of this work is about Tibetan culture. These three Tibetan girls wear Tibetan traditional dresses and jewelry. I chose to paint the white domestic yaks because white yaks represent the goodness and hopes in Tibetan culture. I think girl figures also represent the hopes and goodness because of the innocence and beauty. The girls and domestic yaks are the main characters of the work because Tibetan people have a close relationship with domestic yaks.
