Prompt: This project was based on the “Discrimination Against Muslim” people after 9/11. I started off with the question of why. The first reason was the fact that the attackers were Muslim and people had a perception in their minds that all Muslim people have the same intention or the religion has bad intentions. I dived into how people define a Muslim. Anyone who is wearing face or body coverings like a hijab or burqa was targeted. Most of these people felt unsafe and unwanted for so long. They faced racism, violation, sexism, and many more that made them say ” This is not a good time to be Muslim”. They were scared to wear their body coverings and practice their religion.“Hate crimes against Muslims rose 1617% from 2000 to 2001, according to the FBI marking some of the highest numbers of Islamophobic hate crimes ever in the U.S.”

This design of face-covering is telling a story about how people felt under their coverings. It was not a safe option to wear a body/ face covering because of the hate crimes that were happening. Therefore the pieces are made to hurt your face and strangle you making you feel like it is your jail.
