To Water a Child

Class of: 2025

Major: Interior Design BFA

Medium: Watercolor, paper

Faculty: Shari Diamond

Prompt: This project asks you to capture the “Essence of Time” in the form of a book and consider the structure of a book as a sequence of spaces perceived at different moments. Ideas will be informed by the book “Einstein’s Dreams” by Alan Lightman.

I created this book to release the feelings behind the passing of my father, and the relationship that we had throughout my childhood. I wanted to capture the feelings experienced within my developmental years, through Einstein’s Dream, “Time is like a flow of water.” I decided that expressing the flow of water theory would be best delivered through making an accordion-styled book, allowing for me to create a continuous line drawing that flows across all pages.
