Land Hands

Class of: 2028

Major: Illustration BFA

Medium: Paper and Ink

Faculty: Kate Teale

Prompt: Choose a body part to study and, using the skeleton and anatomical references, and working with models, make research studies to thoroughly understand the structure of your chosen body part. Then make a piece to show your understanding of the body part.

For this project, I chose to focus on the hands. After doing many studies, I had a good understanding of the bone and muscle structures and worked from observation for the final piece. During this assignment, we also went to the Natural History Museum, which inspired me to incorporate studies I did there of different animals. This led me to incorporate frogs, which led me to make the hands look like “leaves” with frogs climbing all over.
