Prompt: Utilizing the Laser Lab, I had to make a pair of shoes for a partner assigned to me. We interviewed each other to be able to make the shoes personal to them.
My partner expressed that the most challenging thing she had to face since moving to Parsons was adapting to the city, since she is from Shenzhen, China. I wanted to incorporate that, so I had the sole of the left shoe have the map of Shenzhen and the right shoe have the map of Manhattan and our campus. My partner also expressed that her favorite animal was a hamster. I added the hamster balls to add more of an interactive and unconventional element– something a slipper normally would not have. I used the Laser Lab to cut out and engrave the chipboard and leather. I used clay and paint to make the hamsters and found round cases for stress balls for the hamster balls.
