First Year Student Workshop: Miniature World(s)

In this workshop hosted by Parsons Graduate Student Xusheng Yu, participants will work with others and use hands-on making skills to manipulate waste objects to reimagine how they might exist in alternate, shared (mini) realities. Students will be paired up and begin with taking photographs and imagining scenarios with a miniature paper version of themselves, incorporating their waste object. Then, they are given the freedom to construct other artifacts within the miniature world they’ve created using more waste materials. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to present their worlds to the whole group. Participants will learn to appreciate the physical world through abstraction and exploration of miniatures, gain an alternative perspective on waste materials, build simple 3D models using waste materials, and gain an appreciation of how other people see the world.

Participants are required to bring in one waste item from their own lives to incorporate into their work.
