Adam Clifford
TAU Recreation
Prompt: For this assignment, we had recreate Tony Smith's TAU sculpture out of any material of our choosing.
Going into this project, I knew I wanted to see if I could take the brutalist, geometric TAU sculpture and turn it into something fun and less serious. To do this, I made the structure out of steel rods and wire to form a sort of outline of the TAU. Next I filled it with bubblegum pink balloons. I loved the idea of contrasting ridged and tough steel with the ultra delicate and soft balloon. In the end, what I was left was a surprising realization of how it feels to grow up. We are all just kids who are forced into a cold and rigid world and expected not to pop. All we can do is try and maintain as much joy, wonder, and curiosity as possible.
