Prompt: For the final studio project, my class was assigned to do heavy research on any topic of our choosing. I researched the spirituality of hedonism and its different portals throughout the culture. I wanted to explore the unspoken link between Buddhism and hedonism.

This is an acrylic painting I created that discusses the connection of Buddhist values to a darker counterpart of hedonism. I think there is a very unique aspect of finding pleasure in exploring the darker aspects of one’s self-consciousness just as Buddhism allows one to reflect through meditation. I chose more unnerving colors and imagery such as the raw meat to play on this vulgar outlook of hedonism but then created my own content depiction of Buddha at the forefront.
