It's All In Your Head
Prompt: I was tasked to sculpt a head that holds significant meaning in my life and acts as a portrait of someone.
Throughout my life, I’ve struggled with coming to terms with who I really am and how others perceive me. Living on the island of Bermuda for my whole life and being locked within a close-knit community, I’ve been taught to believe that conflict is best avoided by fitting in with those around you, whether this be what I choose to wear, the tone and flamboyancy of my voice, and even to the way I choose to stand. It wasn’t until I left Bermuda that I realized that I did this; now my perception of who I actually am has become an empty void. This piece is dedicated to this lost part of my identity. It shows my head hanging upside down covered in mirrored tiles to reflect the viewer, a visualization of how for years I’ve reflected those around me.
