An Exploration of Community
Prompt: In response to the COVID-19 crisis, we were assigned to create pieces for a publication on the topic of distance. Beginning with a reflective exercise, we would come upon an idea relating to distance and make visual pieces relating to that idea.
In response to the COVID-19 crisis, I was forced to reconsider what community is, and what forms it can take. Along with written pieces, I created collages depicting what these forms of community look like to me in a form that is fragmented, disjointed, and messy. I found myself less compelled to create work that was organized and aesthetically beautiful and more pulled by the stripped-down, foggy confusion running through my and my peers’ minds. I hope in future years this work can function as a journal of what so many of us are going through.
