Prompt: The prompt for this specific project was to find major problems for selected neighborhoods in New York City and propose an intervention to solve the same. (My neighborhood of choice in this project was Jackson heights.)
The problem in hand that I chose to solve was the issue of lack of community spaces in Jackson heights. Originally made as a garden city it is sad to see that its visions of having multiple public parks around the city fail with time. I based my invention with the motive to solve this issue with the introduction of a product which has a mass application over all kinds of areas. My intervention and solution is to introduce these products called “one box”. This is a collapsible and deployable box that folds out to form a central structure that then can be used as a central structure for different community areas. These products are made with the collaborations of the community and city. Where the city assembles the base structure and the community works together to put up the structure according to their specific needs and community decisions. “One box” is made with the purpose of being a multi purpose structure that has multiple uses and can be used as per requirements and needs of the community’s or customers it serves.
