A Flower Blooms in Chaos
Prompt: Create a visual narrative piece inspired by Alan Lightman's Einstein's Dreams, focusing on the "twin stranger" character envisioned during class. Select a concept such as 'time flows like water' or 'time as fragmented moments' to explore how meaning is constructed through the interplay of text and images. Design a two-page spread in InDesign, each measuring 8.5”x11”, that creatively reflects your chosen concept through visual and textual elements.
The artwork was created to symbolize one’s fear of change. Whether from a physical standpoint or the fear of changes in our daily routines, my character seeks to reject and destroy every new change in her life, only to realize that this path causes her more harm than acceptance. As she hits rock bottom, a flower blooms from her deepest wound, symbolizing resilience and the possibility of beauty amid chaos. This transformation conveys the message that change is an essential part of life and that even in the darkest moments, something beautiful can emerge—reminding us that everything happens for a reason. My chosen concept of “Cyclical time” is inspired by Alan Lightman’s Einstein’s Dreams, where one’s dream explores a world where time is a cyclical being, repeating itself endlessly over and over again. This notion resonates deeply with my artistic statement, as it mirrors the character’s struggle against change and her eventual realization of the importance of acceptance. In Einstein’s Dreams, the cyclical nature of time suggests that past experiences are not merely forgotten but instead recur, offering opportunities for reflection and growth.
