Light My Fire
Prompt: We had to create a design for matchbox/matchbook for a restaurant that was randomly chosen for us.
For this project, my intention was to capture the essence of the restaurant La Esquina and design a product that reflects its atmosphere. I wanted to incorporate the cultural diversity of the place so at the research stage I was taking pictures of every single detail.
In my final artwork, I decided to use the most impactful visuals that stood alone in the design of the restaurant. It was important for me to use vibrant colors to illustrate the festive and entertaining atmosphere of the place.
I used paper as the material for my project; however, the use of textures helped me create an illusion of different surfaces. The visuals of the metal panels linked the design of the matchbox/matchbook to the exterior design of the restaurant. I wanted to turn an ordinary object that people use every day into something bright and invigorating while still reminding of the restaurant.
