Table Through Time
Prompt: As technology advances, we've become increasingly reliant on social media for communication, leaving face-to-face interaction in the background. This reality has become more pronounced in our daily lives. In this final project, students will work in groups of three or four to create a set of physical objects that will enhance social interaction.
In our project, we explore the timeless significance of the table as a symbol of connection and interaction, bringing people together across cultures for meals, celebrations and conversations. Drawing on a cubism approach to fragmented perspectives and abstraction, we distort everyday objects like phones, radios and computers until they lose their familiar shape, prompting us to step away from modern distractions. In doing so, we create a space that encourages us to return to the roots of human interaction, where sitting around a table, drinking tea, playing games and exchanging ideas becomes a way to reconnect.
