Reflective Prism Container
Prompt: For this project, we were instructed to research an art movement and then create a container that related to that art movement to hold an item that had significance to us.
For my first Space and Materiality piece, we were asked to research and art movement and create a container for an item of our choice. I decided to focus on art nouveau as my area of research to create my container. My object I chose to use to hang inside my container was a prism I own, given to me as a gift. I was inspired by the architecture common to the art nouveau period and included many organic shapes and lines in my final piece to reflect that. The light created by prisms is something I find very peaceful and beautiful and because of that, I decided to make the container itself out of double-sided, see-through mirrored acrylic which I laser cut. I wanted to enhance the light that is created by the prism instead of encapsulating it inside a closed box.
