Prompt: Self Portrait: Beyond the visible. Students create a self-portrait using the pen tool in Illustrator in which they depict themselves while revealing something that cannot be strictly gathered by their appearance.
This piece reflects on how my present self is shaped by past experiences. The figure on the left represents the past and is cast in a softer shadow to suggest its distance, while the figure on the right appears in full opacity to indicate the present. Cutout silhouettes in the background symbolise memories from different stages of my life that form the backdrop to this conversation between the past and present. Who we are today is essentially a mosaic of every version of our past selves and who we have ever been.
