Self Portrait in Bloom
Prompt: The intent of this project was to create a self portrait via the medium of collage.
My collage features myself in a smaller form off center, surrounded by abstract depictions of flowers. While I didn’t necessarily go into the project with a set intention, while I was creating it, I found myself depicting a scenario that I had often found myself in in the past few months. In such, I felt small and was surrounded by all these big, confusing, crazy things that were happening, and it wasn’t that all of those things were fundamentally negative, but I did feel as though the piece began to take on the sense of shrinking and aimlessness that I had been feeling. In the end, I made myself looking up and somewhat away from the viewer, as if in a way I’m looking to the future, or maybe for a sense of purpose.
