The Unknown Force
Prompt: Create a 1.5-2.5 minute Photo Roman in Premiere Pro. A photo roman consists of a series of still images to create a film, as apposed to moving images 24 frames per second. After exploring ‘Imaginary Beings’ by Jorge Luis Borges, and 'Understanding Comics' by Scott McCloud, students will create an evolutionary/or imaginary being through manipulation of still images. This manipulation can be analog or digital before placing into the Premiere Pro timeline for further exploration of the character and the time each image is on screen. Not all stills need to be manipulated, and it is student editing skills that will choose how the "story"unfolds. Students will develop your evolutionary being concept through sketching, storyboarding, photography, and collage (analog or digital) to manipulate the image. Finalized still images will then be placed into Premiere Pro for time/pace exploration. By using photography as base, explore image manipulation through digital or analog methods. Collage, drawing, painting on photos and re-photographing to place into program for analog explorations. Photoshop, Illustrator and Procreate are digital options for altering your photographs.
At my old school, I was considered one of the intelligent students but I could never imagine how science worked. One of the things that fascinated me the most was the physics of force, so I always imagined there was an unknown force behind that we didn’t have to understand. That was my inspiration for this photo roman. From the activities of the house to the wonders of the universe, it all happens because this imaginary being is doing its job. With sound manipulation, shooting, and character illustration, this photo roman becomes the embodiment of my imagination.
