I’m a Traveler
Prompt: This project is an assignment to create a sculpture, inspired by a structure that ordinarily signifies one thing but because of how you make it, a different meaning is suggested through an implicit comparison. From this, I want to make something that I’m always familiar with and always around me. Book!
I grew up surrounded by books. Books remind me of my mother who nurtured my love for books. Books remind me of my imagination and happiness as a child. Books made me get to know the world, especially knowing how the world is not only what I see. Without books, I probably wouldn’t be here, exploring New York and dreaming of traveling the world. Even today, I still dream of having my own library where I can explore the world in just one room. The influence of books and their stories on me led me to this work. I want people to see how I see books and how much I can dream with just a book. I would say that I wouldn’t be who I am today with all my accomplishments without books. Inside the book, there is a ship that symbolizes “traveling around the world”. Also, all the objects in this work are made of paper and filled with words. It aims to show how beautifully composed words and stories can become something extraordinary for someone. In addition, its display-like and book-like form is a reminder to me. A reminder of where all my achievements have come from and encourages me to never stop reading. I would also like to dedicate this to my mom because books are the link between the two of us and have a very deep meaning for us.
