Prompt: For this project, we were asked to create a painting over the course of three weeks that incorporates photographic reference material in any way we choose. The photograph could be used for realistic rendering, digital manipulation, collage, or acknowledged within the painting itself. The only requirement was to use a photo reference, while the choice of medium, surface, and size was left open-ended.

For this painting, I worked on approximately 18×24” paper and used a personal photograph I took of wisteria flowers in my grandparents’ garden as the reference. The image captures the flowers hanging and winding around a white wooden pergola structure, with string lights draped across the beams. I focused on capturing the natural flow and delicate texture of the blossoms, as well as the interaction between the twisting vines and the geometric framework of the pergola.
