Prompt: For this 3-week project, we were tasked with creating a painting of an interior space using any painting medium and surface. The assignment emphasized starting with sketches to develop composition and value, and focused on studying dynamic interior environments.
For this painting, I chose to depict my dorm room bathroom, using oil paint on paper. While the actual space is mostly white, I focused on exploring the subtle variations in color and value that make up the “whites” in the scene. Much of the painting involved playing with warm and cool tones, shadows, and reflected light to show how white surfaces are rarely just white.
