A City Above Water

Class of: 2026

Major: Illustration BFA

Medium: Digital painting

Faculty: Kenneth Millington

Prompt: Create a digital composition in Photoshop utilizing perspective.

Early on, I wanted to create something whimsical, a world that one can only find in a dream. I was inspired by photos I took of NYC from my dorm window and the idea of creating a “city” above water. Specifically, an aquatic city. The city buildings are standing in the middle of an ocean, inhabited by all sorts of creatures that one would find underwater. I tried to make the direction of the buildings loosely shaped like a conch shell and to create a stark contrast between human infrastructure and nature using color. The buildings themselves are plain and uninhabited, allowing for nature to reclaim the abandoned space.
