Me, Myself and I in my head
Prompt: Heads mean many things---they can be cultural, sexual and social identifiers, created as portraits, busts, totems, etc, etc, etc. We talked about the power of a piece expresses by pneuma, the feeling of breath and the internal pressure that creates a tension between what is to be and what is manifested or physically made. The head has a certain fellowship with nature, its perceptive orifices creating a instrument or opportunity in which our own personal human nature and that of the natural or elemental world are in dialogue.
In this piece I tried to portray how it is all indeed in our heads and minds. How our face and head is the first thing a person sees in us. I tried to portray the fragility and delicacy of our heads and how many things it hides. How many layers of character, memories and emotions our face hides. How and what insecurities a person might have and how they are hidden behind our face. I created these very thin layers out of clay to make the skin and try to unveil the face. It is a surreal face that shows the deeper and more meaningful side of the head and face rather than the actual realistic image of it. It is focused on the feelings. It is about perception and how we perceive ourselves.
