Kenzie Lomont
garment on gender fluidity
Prompt: The assignment was to convey or represent a message that we explored in our seminar research essays, through a physical project.
My objective with this project was to create a garment that anyone on the gender spectrum could wear, on or off the runway. I aimed to create something that could be considered gender-neutral, without it being a shapeless, dreary garment. Often times brands release collections like this and label those clothes as ‘agender,’ but I believe this limits gender expression. My piece is a deconstructed dress composed of a blazer, the pant legs of slacks (repurposed as sleeves), snakeskin vinyl, chains and lace.
