"Sorry I Missed Your Call"

Class of: 2024

Major: Communication Design BFA

Medium: Video

Faculty: Wendy Letven

Prompt: For our final project, we were able to choose from a list of words that embodied the idea of "Time." I chose to work with the word Lifecycle, and although it could be any medium I wanted to try working with video.

The process behind this piece was anything but linear. Originally I compiled lots of pictures from my sister and I’s childhood and used the idea of growing up. Although, I thought the project should be a bit more raw rather than nostalgic. I changed my theme from “growing up” to “growing apart” as many siblings and family members tend to do. I used a projector to convey pictures of us (me and my sister) onto our bodies. Since we both used to dance, I thought it would be interesting to involve this art form as it helps to bring us together yet, reminds us of the past.

I played with angles, contrast, and recurring frames to enhance the composition of my piece. I tried many different audios but ended up creating this “missed call” which ultimately helped complete the work. The projection of, not only the pictures but the shadows, also symbolically and aesthetically influenced my video. I think this short film was one of my most successful pieces as it is relatable yet still contains personal attributes.
