Silent Love
Prompt: Sacred body: Do you hold your body or parts of your body sacred? We refer to the body as a temple. Using linear, planar and/or haptic materials, create a sacred body piece. May be any size. Maybe a singular material or a combination of materials.
Silent Love is dedicated to and one hundred percent inspired by my sister, Anna, who means the world to me. She is deaf and mute leaving sign language to be our only form of communication. The sculpture is of my hand saying, “I love you” in American Sign Language. Since she’s the inspiration for my concept, I let Anna choose the fabric for my final piece and she picked the fluffiest material in the store. Despite being extremely difficult to work with, I was committed to using that fabric for her. My hands are sacred to me as an artist, but the ability to use my hands for making will never compare to the ability to communicate with Anna.
