Ugly Dolls: The Sustainable Line

Class of: 2025

Major: Integrated Design BFA

Medium: Sculpture

Faculty: Robert Hickman

Prompt: For this final project we were tasked with making an object using up-cycled materials.

Using inspiration from ugly dolls, I used scrap fabrics and old clothing to create a new line, the sustainable one. I made 4 ugly dolls that all stood for different things related to the sustainability movement such as speaking out against fast fashion, incorrect disposal of objects, badly sourced food intakes, and unnecessary usage of transportation. Although this started as a tribute to my younger self it became a teaching tool that I believe could be very useful facilitate the introduction and discussion of these topics to the younger generations.
