Prompt: Create your own typeface and study the history of the alphabet in a brochure, first using black paper cutouts then refine your design in InDesign.

I based my typeface off of Bauhaus designs. It is big, chunky, rounded, and angular, and I used a hole puncher for the counters. EZ is a display typeface and is best used as large type. I started by creating rough sketches of my typeface then by cutting out shapes in black paper. The final product is refined tracings of the cutouts in Adobe InDesign. Learning about our ancestor alphabets gave me context for my design. Once I learned that the history of our alphabet goes back thousands of years, I was able to create new meanings and play with letters, ultimately leading to “EZ.”
