Prompt: This is a project building a space where we can commemorate some events that a community I belong to experienced.

This is a project building a memorial park where people can commemorate the invention of Hangul(Korean alphabetical system). When I first got this assignment, I immediately came up with this topic because I used to think that Korean people sometimes don’t appreciate much about having an independent writing system. So, I thought it would be good if I build a place where everyone can visit and celebrate the invention of Hangul. The design is based on the principles of Hangul (sky, human, and earth). Mainly, the building is a shape of a sphere representing the sky. There are the staircases with the letters “훈민정음” (ancient name of Hangul) connecting humans and the building which is the sky in context. Lastly, the building, human, and Hangul all lie down on the earth. I focused on those three elements to make the artwork meaningful, not only to make it function.
