Starfish+Whale Shark Second Skin
Prompt: This project emphasizes the performative qualities of patterns and textures and their relationship to the body.
This project starts with researching 2 hard/semihard animal skins. I need to consider how and why do animals develop certain textures, colors, patterns on their skin. For the next step, I did a series of pattern studies from animal skin research. I chose star sh and whale shark for my second skin. Especially, I was attracted by the spots and stripes on the whale shark, and star sh’s thick, boney, calcified skin, which is covered in spines. Therefore, I combined these features to finalize my second skin piece.
